Probate File #1874 Coles Co. Illinois in the Clerks Office gives this information.
Rolly Strader died Coles Co. Illinois March 17, 1865- leaving two wills. John H. Stewart was named Executor in his first will June 20, 1865, with William Lee Jr., as security on his bond.
Personal property valued at $2500. Children mentioned in will. Emeline Dallas wife of Thomas Dallas, Lovina Easton, wife of Asbury Easton, Matilda Waldrop, wife of _________ Waldrop, Louisa Cox, wife of Hugh Cox, Mary Ann Light, wife of Solomon Light, Cynthia Ann Matthews, wife of Lee Matthews, and Jackson Strader, Delilah Gann.
A County Dedimus, made Council Bluffs, Pottowattamie County, Iowa, by D. C. Bloomer, County Commissioner, containing testimony of Robert L. Douglass, attorney in that town, gives the following information:
I, Robert L. Douglass, attorney, Council Bluffs, Iowa, age 52 years, during the month of May 1864,
became acquainted with Rolly Strader, who with his train was camped for some time perhaps two weeks in a grove near and opposite my residence in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During that time I formed an acquaintence with him and conversed with him every day, a good deal. He bought grain of me. At some time in the month of May 1864 he came to my office and dictated a will to me, and after it was written Rolly Strader called in James Green and James Strader who were just outside the office and in their presence and mine signed the will, and took it away with him. In a day or so he with his company left here for the mining regions, west and I have never seen him since. Rolly Strader said that after leaving Illinois he had decided to change the disposition of his property, and I remember that in this will Jackson Strader was to have two thirds of his property and Delila Strader one third.
Rolly stated that he had $4000. with him besides his California outfit consisting of two wagons, carriage and horses. That each of the other heirs was to get $100., except Louise Cox who was to get $500. and a grandson $50.That he had property in Missouri. He said his health had improved very much since leaving Illinois.
Another Dedimus from the Court in Sacramento City, California, by Daniel H. Alexander gives the deposition of James Strader a resident and farmer living in that city. He was witness to will made in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was age 43 years at time of Dedimus. He said he was present as a witness to the will and that it was destroyed by burning, by the heirs, Jackson Strader, Delilah Strader, Lee Matthews and Cynthia Matthews, his wife, Thomas Dallas, Solomon Light, and Mary Ann Light, his wife, who were all parties at the burning of the will made in Council Bluffs, Iowa, after the death of Rolly Strader. When this will was made Rolly Strader had $4000. with him in cash. 11 head of horses, two two horse team wagons, a carriage and California outfit.
Louisa and Asbury A. Easton contested this second will. James W. Green who was a witness to the will made in Council Bluffs, Iowa testified in the Coles Co. Ill. Court- he was age 38 years then. He said we were laying in Council Bluffs, Iowa, also called Bluff City. Rolly Strader went down town, and later sent for me and James Strader to come down to Douglass' office to sign as a witness his will. This was between 14th and 18th day of May 1864.
Elijah Babers was summoned to give testimony.
The account current showed credits of $490.35 and debts of $2188.85

History of Coles County 1876 - 1976. [:UND] _ Goble History states Josiah buried at Green Mound Cemetery, northwest of Harwood, MO. The family of Josiah CONNLEY seems to have moved about a great deal. I cannot precisely date each move, so will record only what I have been told, or can verify. The following item is from the papers of Sam Sargent: "Josiah W. Connely's home in Hutton Township, Coles County, Illinois., was located on the north side of the road, on forty acres, the southwest of the southeast section 24, T12 NR10E. his brother, Edmund, lived about 1/4 mile east and back from the road about a quarter." (This would have been the original Connelly home site, since Edmund lived there after their father's death in 1853.) "His brother, Elijah, lived about a quarter mile west, and their brother, William, lived southeast about a half mile. The family migrated to Texas in 4 wagons in 1860 and lived near Decatur. They moved back and lived in Hutton Township for some time; then again to Texas, probably the same place, later settling at Shell City, MO., at a place then known as Connely Springs...... the second move to Texas was about 1868, when Mrs. Isabell (Connely) Goble was about 15 years of age." Another addition to the papers states they went another time when Isabelle was 18, which would have been about 1872. In an old letter of 1866, written by Emily J. Connely, wife of William, who was a brother of Josiah, she mentions 'Washy', as being at Catholic Mission, Kan. It is possible they also lived there for a time. This is now St. Paul. he seems to have used the second name, Washington, on some legal papers at that time. Later pages tell of the settling in Missouri. I had already recieved most of the article from two great grandchildren who treasure it; however, the librarian at the Public Library in Nevada, MO. was able to find the book and supply xeroxed page, also the title and where it was published.
